The team behind Yakuza and Like a Dragon, Ryu Ga Gotoku Studio, has unveiled Project Century, a brand-new action game set in 1915, bringing a fresh yet familiar energy to fans of the studio’s work.
While the reveal trailer was fairly substantial, details about the game itself remain scarce. From what was shown, it appears to follow a tough, no-nonsense protagonist exploring what seems to be Japan, engaging in brutal combat that looks even gorier than what fans are used to from the studio. The main character is an unfamiliar face, and the setting hints at some sort of alternate history twist, adding an intriguing layer of mystery.
The timing of the announcement comes as a surprise, considering RGG Studio only just revealed Like a Dragon: Pirate Yakuza in Hawaii back in September, with that title set to release on February 21. Notably, this new project is not Like a Dragon 9, which remains unconfirmed. However, given the developer’s packed release schedule, the next mainline entry in the franchise might not be too far off.
RGG Studio is well-known for handling multiple projects simultaneously. Over the past five years alone, the team has released Yakuza 4 Remastered, Yakuza 5 Remastered, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Judgment Remastered, Lost Judgment, Like a Dragon: Ishin, Like a Dragon Gaiden: The Man Who Erased His Name, and Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, alongside three Super Monkey Ball games and an enhanced remaster of Virtua Fighter 5. With Project Century now in the mix, it’s clear the studio has no plans to slow down anytime soon.
